Elmo's birthday is February 3rd. Enthusiastic, friendly and cheerful, he always wants to be part of everything that goes on. However, like most preschoolers, he sometimes doesn't have the skills or knowledge to do what he wants. But that never stops him because he has a very positive, optimistic view of himself and life. Elmo's best friends are Zoe and Abby , and also his pet goldfish Dorothy. Elmo loves eating his favorite food, wasabi. He also loves riding on his tricycle and being tickled.

The first sketches of Elmo by Caroly Wilcox cited in Imagination Illustrated as , reveal that he was initially intended to have a wider face. Elmo used as a generic monster character in the song, " We Are All Monsters. Elmo in his first named appearance from Episode The puppet that would eventually become Elmo was designed in by Caroly Wilcox.

Elmo made his earliest named appearance in Season 11 Episode , where he was first performed by Brian Muehl. In this early appearance, Elmo communicates with Maria only in mumbles. Sesame Street 's Elmo set the internet abuzz after a nearly two decades-old clip from the favorite children's show went viral.

The two puppet characters, sitting at the counter with Zoe's pet rock, Rocco, go head-to-head in their high-pitched, screechy voices as the only human in the scene, Gabi, regrets to inform them that there are no more oatmeal raisin cookies, which are "Elmo's favorite," according to the famous red puppet.

But Zoe breaks the news to Elmo that he can't have the last one of his favorite treats because her pet rock Rocco is hungry and wants it. That was just a tad too much for Elmo to swallow, though, who became "unhinged" by the thought of losing his favorite cookie to a rock.

Elmo and Zoe practiced sharing and are still best buds forever! Elmo doesn't want to talk about Rocco. But the Rock — as in pro-wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne Johnson — has officially weighed in.
